Replacement of screen on Apple MacBook Pro 15 Model A2141 speakers made by LaptopScreen.com

Shut down the laptop

To begin, turn off the laptop and flip it over.

Remove the bottom cover

Remove six pentalobe 1.2 screws from the bottom cover. The back cover is also attached
with two pins underneath and is held down near the back edge with slides.

Use a plastic pick to pry open the back cover along the front edge and apply upward
pressure to release the two pins underneath. Then pull the back cover towards the front edge
to release the slides underneath.

Open the speakers connectors

The speakers are attached with one connector each. Use a plastic pick to peel back the
protective tape over the speaker connector on the left. Open the connector’s counterlever
and slide out the flex cable from the connector. Repeat the same procedure on the right
side: open the counterlever and slide out the cable.

Warm up the speaker connectors

The speakers are held in place with adhesive, and we’ll be using a heat gun to release it.
A hairdryer can also be used. It is very important to not let any heat directly into the
open back. Heat up the surface from the keyboard side instead.

Separate the speakers

Using a combination of picks, pry up the speaker from the case. Continue to use the heat
gun to keep the adhesive warm. Pry out the speaker once it is sufficiently free and leave
the remaining adhesive in place. Repeat the same procedure on the left side.

(Note: The computer will react to the lid opening by turning on. This can be prevented
by disconnecting the battery, but for a minor repair like a speaker replacement, it's not a
must as long as you are careful not to touch anything else).

Pry out the second speaker and straighten out the adhesive.

Install the new speakers

Install the new speakers and reconnect the left flex cable. Lock the connector’s
counterlever. Reconnect the right flex cable and lock the connector’s counterlever.

Reinstall the bottom cover

At this point, the back cover can go back on. Mind the slides that lock underneath near
the fans. Center the back cover carefully and slide it toward the back edge. Apply pressure
with your thumbs to snap the two pins underneath into place.

Replace the six pentalobe 1.2 screws: two longer ones go in the bottom two corners, and four
